| Get out of town – summer, sand, and stained glass! Does Galveston get any better?
Why stay with strangers? At the Mary Meinenger we offer a new alternative to traditional beach houses and bed and breakfasts. We’re not a crowded shack on the sand and we don’t sell you a room – you rent the whole historic Victorian house. This means on a lazy Sunday you can lounge in your pajamas, prepare special family meals in the fully equipped kitchen, or have a small cocktail party in your antique furnished parlor and still be just minutes from the water.
The Mary Meinenger (MINE-en-ger) is the epitome of Galveston's best and brightest historical homes that survived the 1900 Storm. A favorite of Galveston's Historic Homes Tours, she was designed with fine living in mind. The 1896 home exudes graciousness with its sumptuous living room, magical music room and palace-sized dining room. Four colorful Tiffany glass windows accent the attention to detail that makes this no-host home one of the city's most photographed sites. Third floor attic with bath serves as additional sleeping space.
A stay at this no-host home includes an equipped kitchen, luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding and Turkish towels, and it is professionally decorated with European and American antiques. Cable, local phone, and Internet access keep this Victorian modern.
You can escape to the Island and be minutes from the Gulf of Mexico and beaches, a quick trolley ride from The Strand, a quick jaunt from the city’s fine restaurants or cruise terminals, all while vacationing in an historic District.
The Mary Meinenger is rented at a flat rate. There is a two-night minimum required.
