These two pretty restored cottages, once ancient shepherds' dwellings, are situated in a small rural hamlet close to Lucca. In a secluded hillside position, with magnificent views, it is the perfect base to explore Tuscany, including Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Siena, the Tuscan coast and the colourful fishing villages of the Cinque Terre.
The cottages retain their original country charm, featuring characteristic steep wooden staircases, cosy bedrooms, exposed wooden beams and terra cotta tiled floors.Both have modern fitted kitchens, new bathrooms and central heating. There is an attractive swimming pool set among the olive groves for the use of guests.
From the spacious terrace that runs long the front of the houses (each of which have a private area equipped for al fresco dining with barbeque) there are magnificent views across to wooded hills and down the valley to medieval Lucca.
Lucca is a delight, and best explored by bicycle, riding the wide boulevard walls that surround the city. Hidden in the chestnut forests to the north are many medieval villages, including the small spa town of Bagni di Lucca. Popular in the 19th century with the famous poets Byron and Shelley, it was here that roulette was first invented!
The cottages can be rented individually but are also very suitable rented together for a larger group.
