Poulmarvezen was formerly a farmstead whose history can be traced back for centuries. The original choice of the site for a farm was on account of the natural spring that occurs here, (even to this day), and the unique Breton name Poulmarvezen reflects this. (Poul, pool). The oldest of the buildings that remain was built in the late 1600’s, a fortified farm with its own stone spiral staircase in a stone tower, complete with gun slit! The old prison has long since disappeared, along with the right to imprison local miscreants. The first addition to the longere (longhouse) was built in 1729, and the standard of the finely dressed stonework reveals that the farm must have prospered in the interim. Later additions were made in the early 1800’s LE GRENIER is accessed at first floor level from the rear of the longere. A door from the garden leads in to a large open-plan living/ dining/ kitchenette, complete with sink unit, fridge/freezer, gas hob, and multi-function microwave oven. This room is attractively and comfortably furnished, with dark exposed roof timbers and white-boarded ceiling. A staircase leads downstairs to two spacious (cool in summer) bedrooms overlooking the rose gardens. The first bedroom has a king-size double bed and en-suite shower room, leading to the second bedroom, which has three single beds, and is ideal for children. Linen can be provided for a small extra charge.
